About Newton's Discovery:
Newton discovered that white light is a combination of all the colors of the spectrum.
When the colors on this disk spin quickly, they blend together in our vision through an effect
called persistence of vision. At high speeds, the rainbow appears nearly white.
The soft click occurs once per revolution, when the red section returns to the top, so the
wheel's RPM also represents the click tempo in BPM.
Music & Science Connection:
In Opticks, Newton suggested that the seven colors of the rainbow might correspond
to the seven notes of the musical scale. Although this idea was never widely accepted,
it reflected his belief that both light and music could be understood through patterns
and mathematics.
